Don't think that just because this has the word Almighty in the title and Morgan Freeman returns in the role of God that this is in anyway a sequel to Bruce Almighty. In that film Jim Carrey was standing in for God. At least in this we're spared the annoyance of Carrey but the guy playing Evan (AKA Noah) is totally unknown to me. The only real faces known in this are Freeman as God and John Goodman as Congressman Long, playing the bad guy and totally miscast in that role.
Clearly someone had seen him as the bad guy in The Borrowers and thought he'd fill this role well. John is just always too happy and smiley to take seriously as a bad guy. His role could have been cast much better. Anyway, Evan becomes a Congressman who wants to change the world so God sets him in the role of Noah. Build an Ark, save the creatures and people.
To cut a long story short that does happen. The Godly miracles that happen to Evan in the meantime are pretty rubbish (even the Alfred Hitchcock style Birds parody). The film and its plot are thin on the ground, the actors aren't known well enough and don't fill their roles very well (even Goodman & Freeman struggle there). The ending is weak and generally the whole film could have been much better. It's only redeeming feature is the "We need a bigger boat" gag. Leave it until it's out on DVD.
