Right, this might be earlier than people expect it but I found last weeks & this weeks Impacts online so I'm reviewing them today. I really didn't have the time to review last weeks right away I was still doing the previous months Catch-up but hopefully now I can stay on top of these. To those who are wondering if I was going to review this weeks ECW show, I'm currently not sure myself. I will if I can find the damn time to watch it.
Anyway, the usual caveats apply. The views are my own, I have been known to swear so if you don't like my views or can't bear strong language then don't read this. Any feedback will be anwered.
TNA Impact 17th april 2008 - Show opens with Samoa Joe boring us on the mic.
X Division Championship match, Jay Lethal vs Johnny Devine. 1 second. How is Devine getting a rematch so quickly or at all? It's not like he'd really earned a #1 contender spot (him being the last guy against Lethal in the last PPV was more luck than anything else). Lethal won, pretty poor match actually. Having jumped Lethal during his post match celebration Petey Williams decided to cash in Scott Steiners X-Division title shot right then.
X Division Championship match, Jay Lethal vs Petey Williams. Now by the definition of any sane referee this match is out of the window right away. You've got to DQ Williams for what he did before the match started you'd think? But no, the match is allowed to start, Williams wins very quickly as Lethal is unable to put up any kind of offence Petey Williams is the new X Division Champion.
Matt Morgan bores us on the mic.
3 Way Tag Team Championship Match, LAX vs Eric Young & Kaz vs AJ Styles & Tomko. I'm still trying to work out how Kaz & Young are considered contenders for a title shot at all. It's not as though the "Cuffed" match from the last PPV earned them a title shot in any way. You pretty much knew with Young leaving the ring that Kaz & Super Eric would win the belts to become new Tag Champions.
Tag Grudge Match, Team 3d vs Rhino & Christian Cage. Has Russo got NO imagination left any more? In the last 6 weeks we've had so many grudge matches its unreal. Rhino took the win for his team after he hit Cage with a gore but Devon hit Ray with a clothesline but all is not well with Team 3d. Cornette strips Kaz & Young of the titles after Styles claimed Super Eric was "outside interference" so the tag titles are now vacant.
TNA Knockout Womens Championship Match, Awesome Kong vs Roxxi Laveaux. I was expecting a very short squash match but Roxxi worked well giving a very good account of herself but Kong made the eventual & predictable win. What we really need is a 2 on 1 handicap title match to make things interesting.
6 Man Tag Grudge Match - Kip James, Robert Roode & James Storm vs BG James, Booker T & Sting. As far as the face team went it was a decent line-up of talent. For the heels apart from Kip it was whose nobody thats ever been over as a heel. The action was pretty even on both sides but Booker T got the win after a slight assist from Matt Morgan stopping Storm using the beer bottle. The Booker character swerve was UTTER S**T & could have been done A LOT better if they'd lost & Storm HAD hit him with the bottle but not fully.
TNA Impact 24th April 2008 - Booker T bores us on the mic.
Deuces Wild Tag Tournament Qualifying Match, Rellik & Black Reign vs Team 3D. The outcome of this was pretty predictable. Team 3d took the win, eventually & have resolved their issues it seems. And Rudy Charles? Rellik BARELY got that shoulder up in time on that 1st disallowed pin.
Deuces Wild Tag Tournament Qualifying Match, The Motor City Machine Guns vs Rhino & Christian Cage. It was hard to pick a winner here, the speed & inventiveness of The Guns or the experience of Rhino & Cage. Both teams looked good, Cage was happy working with The Guns, smiling a lot during the match really enjoying himself & he was putting them both over a lot. Cage got the win off the unprettier but The Guns were a much better team by far in this match.
Tag Match, Sting & Booker T vs Robert Roode & James Storm. Sting took the win. Nothing remarkable about this match.
World Heavyweight Championship Title Match, Samoa Joe vs Kurt Angle. This was mainly technical mat based wrestling again, anything that wasn't (high flying or high risk stuff) was all Joe. To be honest this match was mainly Joe and how well he could put Angle over & sell for him. After the interference from Steiner hitting Angle with the pipe when the ref wasn't looking Joe took the win to retain his title.
Cornette books Steiner vs Joe vs Angle 3 way dance for the heavyweight belt @ the Sacrifice PPV.
