Movie Review - Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs

Well the differences between this & Benders Big Score come as soon as the opening credits are almost finished. In a good way. I love the Steamboat Willie parody & its very well done & extremely well observed too. It's a shame that's the only thing I DID enjoy about this movie.

It's business as usual at Planet Express, The Universe is coming to an end due to there being a tear in it, Fry has a new girlfriend & Kif & Amy are getting hitched which gives us an excuse to travel to Kif's home-world Amphibios 9 (Which is woefully underused).

This movie is worse than Benders Big Score in a lot of ways. Actually its worse in most ways it can be worse. Its worst problem is its a lot of disjointed ideas linked together pretending to be a script. Eventually after a pointless interlude we discover Fry's girlfriend actually has 5 boyfriends including him so some semblance of Futurama style normality starts to return to the movie.

The movie meanders nowhere for a very long time then Kif dies in a scene stolen from the movie Dark Star. Fry crosses to the other universe & Bender joins The League Of Robots (who claim not to exist). The Professor encases The Earth in a sphere (in a scene lifted right out of The Simpsons Movie) then we have all the planets of The Universe invaded by a tentacle called Yivo in a scene that mirrors Invasion of The Bodysnatchers. Leela appears to be the last not to have been taken over but pretends she has been & reveals Yivo was mating with everyone.

Eventually it re-animates Kif & releases everyone from its parasitic influence. Calculon & Bender have a duel & Bender becomes the president of The League Of Robots. Bender visits The Robot Devil to raise an Army Of The Damned (to kill all humans). All intelligent creatures leave all planets (including everyone leaving Earth) to go and live in Yivo's Universe which looks exactly like the standard human idea of Heaven. The Robots invade Heaven, Fry gets everyone kicked out and we get a weak ending to an extremely weak movie which was very slow, low on ideas and could have been a LOT better!
